Moon Set, Carpinteria-- Jan. 2, 2K10
Not every moon set is the same; some are warm moons, some cool moons. They all vary depending upon the atmosphere, angle, timing of night, and relationship to the time of sunrise. What I strive for is the immediacy of the moment; to capture the tones, and relationships of the colors and shapes before me.
I don't want all the information nature is giving me, but seek only just enough information that will help me interpret the subject in my studio. It is there I will work from memory, to develop it further, and get to the configuration of my subject. It is a deeper truth I seek to realize and express the appreciation for being in the Earth.
This is the November Moon from Carp1nteria Beach, 14x12 oil/canvas 2009

Hi Tom,
ReplyDeleteThis one is a great start to your paintings posted per day for 2010. A typical Van Stein here. Great glow around the moon and reflected light on the water. Outstanding work!
Ron
This is a great idea and a great start. I look forward to following your blog through the year.
